Greg had 2 whole day's off in a row so we took a little trip to Buena Vista! :)
We found a cute little camping site at Cottonwood Lake. It's been a while since we've camped "old school" but we had fun getting reacquainted with it again.
The Aspen trees in this area are abundant! We will certainly return in the Fall and enjoy them changing colors.
We found a road that we couldn't resist exploring and stopped on the way up to enjoy the beautiful creek.
It took us a long time to finally get to the top but it was worth the very rugged road to see this view. I was hoping to see some goats or moose but no luck. Lots of beautiful wildflowers.
We weren't able to do a fire because of the winds, but we still enjoyed our sun warmed marshmallows and made s'mores anyway!
After getting back from our long road exploration, we tried to fish in Cottonwood Lake. We didn't catch anything but the boys had fun trying.
No digging trenches for us...we have the ultimate pooper right at our campsite!
Playing catch on our campsite terrain did not go without many tears, scrapes and bruises.
When they weren't falling of stairs and tripping on curbs they were having lots of fun!!!
The next morning we broke camp and headed into town and had a nice breakfast and coffee. We went to the end of town and found the river and went on a little hike.
It was fun to watch the white water boats go by and enjoy the beauty of the river.
After our morning hike we drove to St Elmo.
It was fun exploring the Ghost Town with the kids. Greg and I rode our bikes there many years ago and it was certainly more 'touristy' this time. Found the rusty old nail on the ground of one of the old cabins to add to our rock collection.
We enjoyed seeing all of the old buildings.
Feeding the squirrels was the big thing to do here!
After exploring St Elmo we stopped at Mt Princeton Hot Springs and played in the warm "pools."
It was really fun trying out all of the different pools in the creek.
Some were hot, some were cool, and some were "just right."
It's hard not to enjoy playing in this.
And drinking in the pool is totally acceptable too:)
We ended our time having a nice dinner downtown before heading home.
We fell in love with Buena Vista and look forward to coming back soon!
